conservapedia

A fundamentalist Christian wiki encyclopaedia project which promotes Biblical creation and rejects science. Heavily criticised by both conservatives and liberals, it is the subject of ridicule from those who are used to getting information without a heavy dose of fundamentalist hilarity.

Conservapedia says:

1) all kangaroos are descended from a single pair who were on Noah's Ark.
2) gravity is an unproven theory.
2) Einstein's General Relativity "has nothing to do with physics".
3) only followers of Christianity are capable of religious faith
4) atheists are incapable of being moral
5) Jews are "touchy" about the Holocaust

Urban Censorship

Sometimes new definitions submitted to this website become ghost posts; this is a form of Urban Censorship. One tends to wonder why a short and simple definition for one-termer was confirmed but never posted while a huge definition for Operation Iraqi Freedom that rambles on an on for several pages is allowed to remain.

conservation of greatness

Usually used in sports related situations (but also applicable to all life situations), conservation of greatness describes a situation where a person has just done something earth shatteringly amazing, and then immediately proceeds to attempt another amazing action. The second action has 1% chance of doubling the glory, and a 99% chance of failure, which includes a 50% chance of making the person look like an absolute fool.

Popularly used in the game of ultimate frisbee, but possibly originating elsewhere.

'Conservation of greatness' is rarely used as part of a statement, but instead is the entire statement, said after witnessing the the failed follow up action.

Said with great joy when an opposing team fails to compensate for conservation of greatness, but with utter frustration when your own team mate has just made a fool of himself.

censorship

1. stopping the free flow of art and ideas.

For those of us in the US we do NOT enjoy the right to free speech (even though it is in the constitution). The supreme court ruled in the Miller case that "obscene" materials are not protected under the 1st amendment and can be banned or regulated; translation: regulated censorship is constitutional thanks to a few activist judges who wanted the government to impose its morality on us. Basically if the subject or content is sexual in any way then whether its obscene or not is up for majority vote; they actually said if the average person would be offended by it and think that it had no artistic value (if you weren't offended by it or thought it was a work of art why would you want to ban it in the first place). This is why it is illegal to give porn to minors, because it shows sex even though this should be decided and enforced by the parents the government is getting involved. Also there's no law against showing violent material to minors, so basically its worse to expose them to consensual sex than murder.

Conservapedia

A complete disaster masquerading as a supposedly factual on-line encyclopedia. It was created as an alternative to the alleged "liberal bias" of Wikipedia in order to "protect the children" as it were. In fact, it is doing more harm than good because the information posted as factual is very often wrong, dangerously incomplete, or an outright falsehood. Use of Conservapedia as a primary source of information is not advised.

Little did Andy Schlafly realize how Conservapedia elevate deliberate ignorance to a whole new level.
