Shaming the gear of someone who tries to wear a historic uniform by pointing out every flaw and shitting on them, rather than offering genuine advice/ constructive criticism

When someone with a physical hobby, such as biking, running or skiing, that requires specialized accoutrements ("gear") such as clip-on shoes, special pants, or goggles, tells you more than you want to know about the procurement, provenance, or usage of said accoutrements
