an adjective describing a quality equally comprised of intellectual and incestuous tendencies, such as the arrogantly navel-gazing and self-perpetuating cycles of academic publishing.
Expectations of academic authorship are increasingly abandoning the ideal of the public intellectual in favor of intellestual expertise, designed to reach the select few who are part of the ivory tower's extended family.
