There's also an element of public perception then comes into play. You see business owner-types talking about how they are more trusting of married people. It isn't the marriage as an institution as much as it is the peripheral elements that make marriage almost necessary. You also have Jordan Peterson trying to convince people that YOU AREN'T SANE IF YOU DON'T DO IT (Get marriage). So no. There's no duplicity there. There's an element of cultural and economic enforcement that could be removed.
