The word has many historical definitions, but if you’re on Urban Dictionnary, you’re probably looking for the word’s “slang”
definition.
It’s an offensive term whose purpose is to insult white people.
The term itself is not an “insult”, like the word “nigger” which originally meant nothing more than “
black” without any connotation, but its use and the context of its use has made it an insult over
time, just like the word “cracker” we’re talking about.
The term is a source of
irrelevant controversy among certain groups who wish to gatekeep the privilege of racial victimization and who resent the fact that ethnicities other than their own can be subjected to racial insults, and therefore resent the
definition of the word “cracker”.
How is this word offensive? It is a socio-racial insult, an insult of class contempt that associates a certain social class with white ethnicity. It shows contempt for the “simple”, “non-fashion”, “unsophisticated” according to their pov.
If said by a white people, not so common, it will probably only have the class contempt meaning only, otherwise it’s social and racial
slur.
