VHS-Beta War 

Term to describe a rivalry between two products (e.g. iPhone vs. Blackerry, PlayStation vs. XBox) with the inherent understanding that one will eventually emerge as the superior product.

Derived from the early VCR format war in which VHS emerged the winner over Beta.

I haven't made up my mind yet on whether to buy an iPhone, I'm waiting to see whether iPhone or Blackberry wins this VHS-Beta War.

Generation Beta 

According to social researcher Mark McCrindle in his book 'The ABC of XYZ: Understanding the Global Generations' (www.mccrindle.com.au), this is what we can expect the next generation to be called. Given the fact that the generational span has contracted significantly from 20-25 years to 15 years, he also predicts that the next generation is due to begin in 2010.
So, why 'Beta'? With generational analysis having moved from a stage of foundation to consolidation, a more predictable labelling system is being formed. There being consensus on the alphabetised theme of Generations X, Y and Z, it is most likely that the next generation will be Generation Alpha (the first letter of the Greek alphabet). This nomenclature of moving to the Greek alphabet after exhausting the Latin one (A, B, C, D etc), has a long history with meteorologists. In fact, scientists of all disciplines use the Greek alphabet as a labelling sequence and so it looks likely that the sociologists will follow this trend with the generations too.

Passive Aggressive Beta

Consists of 70% of the Internet, mainly virgins, losers and young adult males. There will be varying degrees.

100% of them will fail shit tests.

The following are traits of a Passive Aggressive Beta:

1. passively resist fulfilling routine social and occupational tasks

2. complain of being misunderstood and unappreciated by others

3. is sullen and argumentative

4. unreasonably criticize and scorn authority

5. express envy and resentment toward those apparently more fortunate

6. voices exaggerated and persistent complaints of personal misfortune

7. alternates between hostile defiance and contrition

Don't be a Passive Aggressive Beta.

High Beta Alertness 

A state of high anxiety with people prone with Autism or very sensitive to sound, which is caused by abnormally high frequency brain waves. During high beta alertness, the person may become perceptive enough to hear their own brain waves, and only the sound of either a low frequency, or a calming voice may take them out of this state of anxiety. It can sometimes not be caused by an anxious episode, but it can make a person feel anxious, since in a quiet environment the high pitch humming akin to Tinnitus can be heard at times.
