gay, fag, faggot, homosexual, queer. One night on xfire (the gaming instant messenger) two astute men decided that the ~ (tilde) key is in fact the gayest key on the keyboard. So instead of calling someone a "fag" they could quickly hit the ~ key to give the same meaning. Now they came to this conclusion just by the actual physical appearance of the key, do to its curved and queer nature.

How it's supposed to be used: 1.54 + 4.12 = ~6
How it shouldn't be used: Come over here~
As proof, this sentence doesn't seem sexual without the tilde: Come over here.

The classic tilde! At least to my knowledge, it's most commonly used for flirting nowadays. Or sounding cute, if you're innocent enough to think that way. Here's an example, showing a message WITH the tilde, and without it:

Example 1: I'm home alone, wanna come over?

Example 2: I'm home alone, wanna come over~?
