The emphasis is on the word "love" which differentiates the term from similar types like open or slut although those types often use the term "polyamorous" or "poly" to define themselves; usually incorrectly.
Polyamorous people love the people they sleep with in the same way monogomous couples love each other and are also loyal/faithful to their partners in the same way. Being poly requires open honestly between all involved to fit the accepted definition of polyamory.
Poly is not purely defined by sex alone. A poly person can love two people dearly while only having sex with one of the people involved. For example: A man with two girlfriends who love each other without jealous feelings and who sleep with him but not each other; all involved are polyamorous.
Not the same as, but closely related to, being a polygamist which is strictly defined by marriage and not just love. When polyamorous couples get married they are then polygamists.

A small hick town in Ontario, Canada, near St. Catharines. Nothing has ever happened here, or ever will. Everybody who lives here is bored as fuck. Pelham includes North Pelham (home of the big Avondale), Fenwick (drug use), and unfortunatly Fonthill (rich spoiled kids). It's recommended that you own a car if you live here so you can drive to Niagara Falls to find something to do. It's pretty cool other than that, because it's not Welland.

Get the polyam mug.Pelham is a ridiculously small town in Suburbia, Southern NH. Its near Windham, Dracut MA, Tyngsboro MA, Salem, Hudson, and Nashua. People in Pelham talk about Lowell as if it were the Compton. I find this very sad. There are no gangs in Pelham. Our school system is falling apart and the high school is losing accreditation. The only places to go are the malls in Salem/Nashua, or Chunkys, so there is nothing to do, so mostly everyone does drugs: typically pot, but recently, oxy has been catching on. There are no gangs in Pelham. Everyone hates everyone else here. Mostly because everyone sucks so badly. There are no gangs in Pelham.
