2- to officially prohibit from holding a usual post or carrying out a usual role for some time, awaiting further information

3. to hang something so it fixed on one end and free on the other.
"The light was suspended from the ceiling."
4. to keep from falling or sinking by some invisible support (such as buoyancy) "..dust suspended in the air."
6. to keep waiting in suspense or indecision

A comment on the incorrect use of the word suspend below. It occurs in the Aspirin between the knees - Urban
Dictionary definition. One of the meanings of suspend which I presume is how it's being used here, means to hang. One doesn't hang the aspirin between one's knees. The writer could have used put, keep, hold, held, clutch. I quote:
" ..if a woman were to suspend an aspirin between her knees, she would be unable to spread her legs without dropping the aspirin...........deemed sinful..."
Freiss used the word 'put' (in 2012) about how it was back in his day: "The gals put it between their knees, and it wasn't that costly," he told MSNBC's Andrea Mitchell.

To get readers to suspend their disbelief when you write fiction, you need to include human interest and a semblance of truth in characterization.
