You eyeball people walking towards stairs hoping to engage them in prolonged eye contact, so to make them forget about the stairs they are about to reach. You win the game when they keep eyeballing you and fall up or down the stairs.

what to say to your friends when you got beat up and and don't want to admit it. Because of it's overuse (a result of the historical precedent for lying about spousal abuse in order to preserve the sancity of marriage) it is considered a thinly veiled cry for help.

"woah, Joanie, what happened to your eye?"
"I fell down some stairs."
"is everything OK with Phillip?"
"yeah, everything's fine. I just fell down some stairs, ok, Mom?"

The French have this phrase, l'esprit d'escalier. Literally, it translates as "the spirit of the staircase" but what it actually means is the things you think of to say after it’s already too late and you’re on your way out.

The spirit of the staircase was with me the whole walk home as I thought of better comebacks I should have said to him when we had that argument.
