Oakum
n : loose hemp or jute fiber obtained by unravelling old ropes; when impregnated with tar it was used to caulk seams and pack joints in wooden ships
(these seems are called The Devil...the origins of the term "the devil's to pay")
It obviously means to take flight quickly, though I do not know the full history of the term...

Get the Okayu mug.A stereotype used for the creation of konata from lucky star, they enjoy manga, anime, yaoi, music, videogames, and cosplaying, they are athletic and good at sports, they may act innocent but they're perverts in reality and think about male x male relationships, and even female x female, most of the time they're hotter than the otaku girls from other parts of the world, but there are grotesque exceptions.

Get the Japanese otaku girls mug.Otakuese is the language most self-proclaimed "otaku" speak in. It is a mixed up jumble of (mostly) random Japanese words and the speaker's native language. In Otakuese, accurate useage of Japanese words is not important.
Ex: Baka - anything the speaker doesn't like.
Kawaii - anything the speaker does like.
Ex: 1: "Pokemon is sooooooo ka-WAII!"
2: "No it's not! Pokemon is totaly BAKA!!!!!"
*fight ensues*
Otakuese is largely unintelligable to members outside of the "otaku" community. However, it is noted that most "otaku" are able to understand each other fairly well. Although disagreements may break out about the particular useage of a word.
Ex2: 1: "She is so kakkoii!"
2: "No she's not! She's so bish!"
*fight ensues*

Get the otakuese mug.A Japanese word describing a person beyond the realm of fandom but into mania that is improperly used by American fans.
In Japan the word "otaku" has become taboo because of Miyazaki Tsutomu who went on a toddler murdering spree in the 80's, video taping the young girls he had murdered from an obsession with lolicon (female pedophilic manga).
Americans use this term to call themselves "fanboys" or "fangirls" with almost no knowledge of the horrific roots behind the word.

American Fangirl: "I have a huge collection of Macross, NGE, Sailor Moon, yaoi, and many other anime! I'm such an otaku!"
Non-anime fan: "...Uhm, you do know about that word right?"
