Carbon Offset

An act of pretending to care about the environment. The attempt to justify ones use of greenhouse gas emissions. A false hope for solving global warming. The act of buying ‘carbon credits’ from a third-party company that says it will offset the carbon emissions the purchaser produces. The problem with carbon offsetting is it allows companies to continue to produce harmful greenhouse gasses while their offset has done little or nothing to counter global warming. A recent Financial Times article found that many offset companies and their 'carbon credits' were of either uncertain value or were completely worthless. Global warming cannot be solved by just planting more trees, a common way to attempt to offset ones emissions. If global warming could be solved by just planting trees, environmentalists would be planting night and day. A certain well known ex-vice-pres 'eco-maniac' very interestingly endorses the practice of carbon offsetting. The industry of carbon offsetting is expected to double by 2010.

A better solution to solve global warming is to reduce total emissions as much a possible.

Quidditch Offseason

The period of time from the end of one quidditch season to the start of the next one. As its the only sport in harry potter, sports fans at hogwarts are left with nothing to watch during these six or so months.

similar to the few months after the nfl season ends until the mlb season starts.

Ron: turn off espn. all they're showing is highlights from last month's quidditch championship

harry: maybe if JK Rowling had invented more than one sport we wouldn't be stuck in quidditch offseason.

Verb: To obfuscate your own personal information immediately prior to leaving a social web site.

I quit Facebook when I signed up for Google+, but since Facebook won't actually delete my account, I obfuscrammed it by deleting all my friends, then I "liked" a bunch of religious pages, disconnected my mobile link, removed all my pictures, personal information and notes and things, posted a bunch of nude pictures of Kasia, changed my profile name to Kasia, then posted my password everywhere I could think of.

They deleted my account for me.

OBFF

Online best friends forever.. even though you see each other once in awhile, it's just easier to talk online.
