Depending on what coffee table books you read,
neighborhoods in upper Manhattan are suburban since they are not around midtown or downtown (and mostly residential/bedroom
neighborhoods), and someone who wanted to talk shot about somebody's neighborhood or put it down could mention it, though you would think the way someone from the neighborhood describes their own neighborhood is accurate enough, without reading statistics about their neighborhood or going by a
coffee table book. The same is true for many areas in many cities, a little bit of knowing what you're talking about is better than reading a book or what you think you know about something or someone. The country is not the suburbs and people who grew up somewhere that was not suburban at the time they grew up don't tend to have suburban values.
