Coeurdifornia

Half of California has already moved to North Idaho (the other half is on its way). Specifically what used to be the little town of Coeur d'Alene (though it's happening all over the region, nothing's sacred anymore). Money-hungry developers think this is the greatest place ever and have nearly obliterated the surrounding prairies and mountains with crackerbox houses and artifical lakes - or conversely, mansions only the extremely wealthy can afford. ALL HAIL THE ALMIGHTY BUCK! Coeurdifornia now has box stores, road rage and traffic jams, while cigarette boats and mosquitoes (personal watercraft) befoul our once clean and peaceful lakes. (After thirty years I've come to hate it and will be out of here as soon as possible. I'm going to... um, Death Valley. Don't follow me. It's not that great. Really!)

"Concrete jungle" refers to the urban city; first used in cinema by Academy Award winning "The Lost Weekend" (1945), directed by Billy Wilder, starring Ray Milland. Milland's character, Don Birnam, a chronic alcoholic, and binge drinker, speaks of others with the same condition in the "concrete jungle" as the camera pans across a skyline of Manhattan as an epilogue to the story.

Out there in that great big concrete jungle, I wonder how many others there are like me... poor bedeviled guys, on fire with thirst; such comical figures to the rest of the world, as they stagger blindly towards another binger, another bender, another spree.

Coeur d'Alene

Coeur d'Alene (pronounced /ˌkɔr dəˈlein/) is the largest city of Kootenai County, Idaho, United States. The city is located about 25 miles east of Spokane, Washington.

The current population of approximately 50,000 is growing at a feverish pace due to the local arts and tourism. Key points of interest are the Coeur d'Alene Resort (which has the longest in-land floating boardwalk), Lake Coeur d'Alene, the Festival of Lights parade, and the Car d'Lane Classic Car parade and show.

The town is nestled in a valley, surrounded by mountains on all sides. It is bordered to the north by Hayden and Dalton Gardens, and Post Falls to the west. To the south, there is Lake Coeur d'Alene, which includes a public beach and waterfront area, as well as a private beach at the bordering North Idaho College.
