When you place a wet coat or shirt over a non-operating standing fan to dry it out, it looks somewhat like a mannequin, ergo, it's a fannequin.

I was really scared when I got home last night as there was a figure lurking in the darkness! Boy, I was relieved when I realized it was my fannequin.
