For whatever reason, the hookup never happens, schedules, sickness, cold feet, shark week etc. When those reasons mix with higher than normal expectations, misperceptions of levels of experience, fear of safety etc. it causes a reluctance to act on the desire to hook up. It didn’t happen and now you are sad and wish it had all played out differently. The moment is gone and someone is relieved, someone is sad and the other doesn’t care.
