An audience of one. An attendee at the kind of concert or sporting event where the name of the crowd is published for the benefit of the other participants.

Our band's first concert went well - we were really kicking it. The Audient was overcome with emotion, and promised to bring a friend to the next gig. The bar staff also applauded. The drummer got the audient's phone number !

A term typically used to describe physical, cultural and linguistic discrimination against deaf or hard of hearing people.

Audism applies to both the hearing and Deaf communities.

Examples of audism would be enying the Deaf individual a position based on his/her hearing and/or linguistic capacity.

Another example of audism would be refusing to provide an interpreter citing financial hardship when the ADA cites accessibility to interpreting services is a civil right.

A typical school extra-curricular club that in the 60s - early 90s used to be very nerdy and uncool. Now, AV has become very advanced, you get to learn about the recording industry, getting students ready usually to get a good college for audio recording. Jobs include running live sound for concerts and plays, and lighting design. Can be a very rewarding experience. WARNING: May lead to catching the audiophile fever.

Audio Visual was fun today. We got to skip half of our classes to run audio for a show.
