Yonkers

A place predominantly known for its racetrack. Otherwise regarded as the "6th borough" of NYC (sometimes Jersey City/Hoboken is the 6th boro however.) For those of you not familiar with it, most of Yonkers is like Staten Island without the landfills; the downtown area is similar to Newark, N.J. Though located in notoriously wealthy Westchester County, Yonkers is largely middle and lower middle class and has little in common with the rest of the county and is probably more like New Jersey (Of course, this would have been an insult before the Sopranos made Jersey hip).
The two main ethnic areas are McLean Avenue/Woodlawn (Irish) and Dunwoodie (the Little Italy of Yonkers, where you literally can find people who look like they could be on Tony Soprano's crew). There is also an upper middle class area called Crestwood which doesn't like to identify with Yonkers.

Yunker

A long-time resident of the Manayunk neighborhood of Philadelphia. One clue as to whether someone is a Yunker (pronounced Yoonk-er)is their pronunciation of the word Manayunk. Newcomers emphasize the first syllable (MAN-a-yunk) while Yunkers emphasis the last syllable (Man-a-YOONK).

How do you like your neighbors on Cresson St.?

I don't know. I've been there 6 months and they still haven't talked to me. They're real old-school Yunkers.

Younger sibling

When you get a younger sibling, you have a 90% chance of the devil swapping it out with one of its minions. The other 10% of babies passed the devil's vibe check and was able to stay. These few specimens are the rare case of a well-behaved kid. If you have one, consider yourself lucky.

yonkers

north of nyc city where it is becoming more ghetto as time passes. most of it is from the low income housing that are built right by places like cross county, mt vernon west train station, and various mcdonalds. it also has many hispanics on the sides of major roads waiting for jobs. some parts of it are nice tho.

Yonkers

Cool place to hang out, the only city in Westchester county NY that isn't lame.

Yonkers is where all the cool, interesting working-class people live, the rest of the county is a bunch of stuck-up upper middle class whitebread countryclub goers.
