Typically, you say this when you are older than someone and you just wanna rub it their face that you are older.
There is 1 exception of this rule though. Anyone with the name chris, can say this to someone older and it will be ok. But, the other person who is older is unable to call them kiddo.

A term often considered an endearment to a loved one, but often serving as a distraction from the fact this person is a single woman with a child.

Usually combined with a lack of understanding for ones true age and required maturity level. Resulting in the cutesy use of the word, 'kido or kiddo' to describe ones bastard offspring.

In truth it is weird, you need to grow up and act your age.

"Having dinner and a movie with the kiddo!"

Hip with the Kiddos

A term used by members of the younger generation to describe someone as in-touch or trendy.

Also can be used by an older person to describe themselves, though usually incorrectly.

My teacher tries to be hip with the kiddos, but nobody ever gets his 80s romcom references.
