The "Minnesota" accent is actually called either the Upper Midwestern Dialect or if you are talking about northern MN it is called the North Central Dialect. Both of these include other Midwestern states as well. The "Minnesota" accent is influenced by Scandinavian and Canadian dialects. There is a large population of Norwegian immigrants which is where a lot of the speech traits come from. The Upper Midwestern Dialect is the most common throughout the state. This includes traits like elongating vowels, esspeciall O. The North Central Dialect is more of the stereotypical "sing-song" kind of accent. Many people with the North Central Dialect will use V in the place of W. Turning "Well" into "Vell". Another reason for some of these differences is because many languages that influenced these dialects do not have many of the same phonemes that Standard American English has. So there you go... an indepth analysis of the "Minnesota" accent. (And trust me... Minnesotans do have an accent. I grew up there and then moved to the west and people catch it all the time!)

Get the mince mug.An overall awesome band. Jack's Mannequin is the side project of singer-songwriter-pianist Andrew McMahon of Something Corporate. It is usually classified as alternative rock, but is occasionally referred to as punk.Jack's Mannequin is a fairly new band. It was started in 2004, releasing it's first album in 2005. Jack's Mannequin only has one album, Everything In Transit, released right now. Everything In Transit is full of songs that are deeply personal to Andrew. Most of them have something to do with his struggle with leukemia. For example, Holiday From Real is about readjusting to his old life after his recovery and Kill The Messenger is about being in a relationship with someone who is ill (that person being himself). La La Lie involves the friends Andrew thought he had, but who didn't help him and stay by him while he was sick. Other songs from Everything In Transit are about love, relationships and other topics. Jack's Mannequin gained a lot of popularity after the band appeared on the T.V show One Tree Hill and were featured on it's soundtrack. The band currently finishing up their West Coast Winter Tour and will then start working on a new album.
Jack's Mannequin is a great band. They're my favorite.
