A person who was, at one point, a live-in boy/girlfriend who, due to one thing or another, has become an ex-boy/girlfriend. Due to the recession and price of housing, this person continues to share a bed with you as it is far far cheaper than finding a place of their own.
This situation is commonly found in twenty-somethings who have split up whilst cohabiting.
This relationship dynamic rarely involves sex, but is more comfortable than a "normal" friendship.

Extra points on a doctor/nurse's bedside manner if he/she is willing to actually climb in bed with the patient for a little while to soothe him and keep him company... snuggles/massages are usually expected; sex is optional but often gladly welcomed by the patient, who likely will then recommend the hospital to his friends for anytime they feel a need for "medical attention" themselves... a great way to keep the hospital-beds filled!! This "cuddles in exchange for praising the hospital" deal is a similar idea to a waiter/waitress's providing exemplary service to a diner-patron in hopes that said patron will give the staffperson a generous tip.
