Electronica

A word used by the media to describe the revival of electronic music in popularity in the mid to late 1990's. Specifically, it referred to electronic music with a sound influenced by rock (with live drums instead of electronically produced percussion) and a little bit of hip-hop (mainly breaks/samples). This style, while called electronica by the mass media, became known as Big Beat (which I will use to describe "electronica" from now on in the definition) by many others, and it included subgenres such as Chemical Breaks and Funky Breaks, too. Big Beat eventually fell out of fashion, mainly its focus on breaks made it unoriginal; there were only a few dozen breaks that producers used, so it became repetitive.

However, some of the people making big beat back during it's heyday are still producing this type of music, most notably The Chemical Brothers, who won the Grammy award for best electronic/dance album in 2006 (for the album "Push The Button").

Person A: Did you listen to that new Fatboy Slim album? That was some great electronica!

Person B: It's big beat, not electronica. (Person B walks away from Person A and sighs.) Stupid media.

Electro-Punk

One who is influenced by techno/mod culture, and mixes their own funky style with that of the punk scene. In dress they are their own, and tend to have a unique, off-beat personality. They are probably counter-culture and an intellectual. Quite eccentric. Scientific/long name for them is "orthodox electro-punk misfit" or "orthodox electro-punk nerd".

"Wow, that new girl's so weird. She likes to wear eighties dresses and mosh to Madonna, what's her problem?"
"Oh, she's just one of those electro-punk kids. They like to call themselves 'orthodox electro-punk misfits' though."

Post-Election Selection Trauma

Post-Election Selection Trauma or PEST for short, is a made up disorder for pompus, self-centered, elitist individuals that can't fathom the fact that they lost an election. It is mainly experienced by liberals and French lovers alike, and was first diagnosed after the 2004 Presidential Election. It's symptoms include but are not limited to: feelings of withdrawal, feelings of isolation, emotional anger and bitterness, loss of appetite, sleeplessness, nightmares, pervasive moodiness including endless sulking, and being excessively worried about the direction of the country.

In otherwords, the diagnosis is "You're a Sore Loser, get over it."

Hippie: "Bob stopped showing up to our drum circle meetings and couldn't eat his organic humus anymore. He's having intense hypno-therapy sessions and electroshock therapy now. His therapist said he is suffering from PEST, Post-Election Selection Trauma."

Normal Person: "What a pussy."
