hit or Miss

Describes how a spinster may either "score" wif a guy (i.e., "hit on" him to see if he finds her attractive/likeable, and then "hit da mark", as in, have him turn out to indeed be compatible enough wif her for them to get hitched), or "strike out" --- i.e., find him not to be da one for her --- and thus she will remain a "Miss" instead of a becoming "Mrs."

Da famous comedy-film "Runaway Bride" was definitely a prime example of "hit or Miss".

Hit by a Tree scenario

A scenario, usually brought up at work, in which a tree falls ontop of you the next day.

Usually this is brought up to force you to document your work, so others can continue/finish it if something would happen to you, whether this is you actually dying or you getting replaced by someone cheaper.

Alice: "I just pushed IEEE 802.11mc to the main repo, there is still a lot of work to do."
Bob: "Don't forget the hit by a Tree scenario"
