it has been said many different ways. But "indie" is very broad and encompasses a lot. Its not always a person who tries to go against the main stream-but just someone who likes what isn't popularized... Indie is what something is before its watered down and presented for basic and massive culture. Yes some people who like indie music are proud and can be sarcastic to those that do not try to further their tastes beyond mtv, radio and mega cd stores. Indie-"kids" tend to hunt out more for music.
Indie can also appeal to hip hop, electro, baile funk, and every catagory-since it justs means independent.

Indie person: Actually they're quite mainstream, try again. Instead perhaps: Red paintings, silversun pickups, the knife, Dresdon Dolls, Clouddead, CocoRosie, SpankRock, Diplo, Hot chip, Muslimgauze, Milosh, Neon Blonde, Nouvelle Vague, Rasputina, Von Iva, and Arcade Fire!

indie

indie kids,are often kids who reject labels and will only accept being called an indie kid if called so by a friend who understand that the indie kid did not try and obtain this label.

indie kids style is a mixture of independent factors that they enjoy.
sometimes pulling from the realms of folksy,punk or hip.
indie style is a mixture of other styles,layered to create something somewhat original with each person.

a teenager or young person who listens to independant music. they dont necessarily only listen to indie music but they still do to some degree. unlike what some other definitions say, an indie kid doesnt have to fit a certain description, as long as they listen to indie music.

Indie

An indie will never tag themself as indie but will reiceve the tag from the people and peers around them.it's about being yourself.

It isn't a trend, it's a way. Your just like that. An indie has their style and no matter how much copperates target wannabes. Wannabe can never be indie because indie means independant / not mainstream -completly different to sell out "indie" stuff like (vans and pennyboards).

Taste:
-Indies are indie because of their taste in music. It also sets out the real indies from the fake. Their taste is alternative and indie.
-The Arts are a big part of indie life.
-Indies dont mind what other people think of them. But they still try to look good/presentable.
- They have vintage looking taste and will stay away from mainstream trends.
- The reason i don't list what clothes they wear is because only wannabe indies would care.

Big mistake people make:
- Indies think they are more superior then everyone else. They don't think that they look like that because they don't respond to the glares of judgement from the scene.
-Indies hate all mainstream music. They will mostly stay away from it but may sometime enjoy a song in the top 40. What they hate is cooperates selling bands advertising them as mainstream.
-Indies are Emo, this one will probably piss an indie off the most. Emos basically stole the indie look and made it all black.

Indies dont mind what other people think of them. But they still try to look good/presentable.
~Wannabe indie: Wakes up with bed hair goes out in public
~Indie Guy: wakes up combs hair, styles it to look like bed hair.

~ Wannabe indie (tries to be indie): I'm so indie i got some vans and downloaded snow patrol they so rule.
~ Indie: You could never be indie because indie can't be bought.

~Wannabe Indie: Goes on the internet to see what a indies wears so they could go to school thinking their indie.

~ Wannabe Girl Indie: Im so indie i like love the indie music and the pennyobards are so cool like thats sooo indie. Indie like totally rule. Ekkkkkkkk
~ Indie Girl: You could never be an indie even if your life depended on it. No website on the world would tell you how to be indie.

Call yourself Indie. Your not indie if you do that. If you think you need to do that for people to think your "cool" then you are a wannabe indie.

indie grunge

Indie grunge is a style influenced by bands around the 1990's e.g. Nirvana, Pearl Jam etc

Indie stands for individual so 'weird and wonderful' kin of look. Mixing it with the rebellious grunge makes a softer version of it appealing to many people.
Style items include:
•Distressed jeans/shorts/tights
•Band tshirts and tshirts with some colour
•Round glasses
•Combat boots

Look at Rachel dressed in her ripped shorts tights and a band tee while listening to al bairre, she's definitely got an indie grunge style!

trick invite

An invitation to an event that ends up being a hoax. The most common trick invite involves a new foreign kid being summoned to meet up after school only to find himself all alone.

Duder 1: "Yo Italian dude! Soccer today?"

Italian Kid: "Oh yes-a, of-a course! I be there!"

Duder 2: "Ha ha you're such a dick dude. That was a trick invite wasn't it?"

Duder 1: "Fuck yea. He's been falling for it for the past 4 weeks!"

Indie wannabe

Someone who says she/he listens to indie, when in reality all their music comes from websites that advertise as a place to get "indie rock" therefor not making it indie. Also someone who claims to know an indie band when in reality he/she just claims to in order to be accepted.

Indie kid: Do you know this band?

Indie wannabe: Yeah totally

Indie kid: name one of their songs.

Indie wannabe: uhmm...

Indie kid: exactly
