signature

a small banner-shaped picture that is used to display ones name on an online fourm. Usually made with photoshop, many of these are rather impressive.
I made 20 signatures for this foum today.

virtue signalling

Saying you love or hate something to show off what a virtuous person you are, instead of actually trying to fix the problem.
Jane: "Wow! I hate Fox News! They're so evil and they hate women!"
John: "Why don't you actually do something instead of just virtue signalling about it?"
Jane: "OMG that would be WAAAAAAY too much work" *goes back to shitposting on twitter*

Virtue Signalling

Virtue signalling is a superficial attempt by somebody to flaunt their self righteousness.

Often condemning others to gain attention, validation or showboat moral superiority.
Jada: “Andrew called me a polluter, but he drives a car with the worst fuel economy!”

Will: “You know he doesn’t about the environment, he’s only virtue signalling”

revolving time signature

n.

1. A phrase of music notated in a particular meter, but accented as though it were written in another. When played against the backdrop of the initial time signature, the "revolving" time signature feels as though it is moving around the other one.

2. Another term for hemiola
The revolving time signature at the end of the song gave me motion sickness.

Virtue Signalling

To take a conspicuous but essentially useless action ostensibly to support a good cause but actually to show off how much more moral you are than everybody else.
Fred: I see George has changed his profile picture to show his support for refugees.
Barbara: Has he donated money or time? Is he giving English lessons? Is he making a room available?
Fred: No, no, he's just virtue signalling.

Intelligence signalling

To broadcast or telegraph that you are more intelligent than you actually are by attempting to educate people and provide unsolicited advice under the guise of helping them.

Includes an element of virtue signalling as the goal is both to dominate by making yourself appear smarter and more virtuous in juxtaposition to the receiver or audience.

The intention (as well as virtue-signalling 'helpful' advice) is to self-level-up and often to make it seem like you have more knowledge in a given field. Since you often target someone more specialized or experienced than you are your advice is either common knowledge, making you appear like a douchebag in the eyes of the receiver, or it is made up bullshit.
My mistake was when Joe asked me how my marketing business was going and I said 'slow'. For the next hour he was intelligence signalling useless advice. The only thing I learned in that hour was how little he knows about marketing.
