hippie

There are two types of hippies, the Spirit Hippie and the Ego Hippie. The Spirit hippie has integrity and lives up to his own word of spreading peace/love and self acceptance. Dirty clothes and dreads are optional and do not define hippies. The other types are ego hippies. Ego hippies are people who really do not hold hipster ideals dear to there heart, but instead enjoy seeming different just for the sake of making everyone else seem less than for not believing like they do. Ego hippies are where the stereotypes come from.
I used to think I was a hippie until I realized I was just trying to seem different and get people to think more highly of me and my weed smoking/tree hugging clothing (I used to = ego hippie)

hippie 3.0

also "hippies with teeth".
Like their namesakes, they may share many ideals: nuclear disarmament, equality, civil rights, peace, etc. However, they are very modern- adapted in environs rife with suffering and greed. Possible adaptations: job, education, self-defense, wilderness skills, first-aid...
Eschew dependencies, attempting to learn from elder's mistakes while remaining loyal to ideals.
Streetsmart but open, they tend toward the same compassion and openmindedness of their elders. While culturing a healthy sense of paranoia, they refuse to fear possibilities.
Value traits such as mobility, diplomacy, strong morals, and strength.
Speech: intelligent and peppered with both multisyllabic words (like "multisyllabic") as well as common street-kid slang ("shwag, kickdown, feddy, gnarls", etc).
This term defines those who, while trying to get by, possess an active mind/body, persistent conscience and all-inclusive worldview.
May take in strays, seeing it not as a chore but as an opportunity to improve the quality of life for others, as well as good karma.
Vast variety: some may be vegans, but most will eat meat, wear leather, and use less than 100% recycled products (due to their small budget and priorities).
They may not have the support, community, or popular culture of their elders as in the 60's, however this has only made them more independent, adaptable and resilient.

Hippie Theory Syndrome

When one person comes up with a hip or politically correct sounding statement, and others who hear them start changing their thought process and then repeating the statement for the rest of their lives.
Person 1 " I don't celebrate thanksgiving because it's just a reminder of how we slaughtered the native americans.

Person 2 (Hears the statement and then in an effort to seem more politically correct than others, does the same. When in actuality, Person 2 would have loved celebrating it.)
