A meme with multiple layers. The original dialogue is from the Sonic Boom cartoon. In the show, Dr. Eggman complains that his soup is cold and his salad is hot, then exclaims "How is that even possible!?". People soon found that the dialogue fits with the song "Red Sun" from Metal Gear Rising Revengence. They replaced the line "When the wind is low, and the fire is hot," with "The soup is cold, and the salad is hot!".

In harness racing this is the position of the horse directly behind the leading horse against the inside running rail during the race. For most horses it is the preferred position to win from.

At the trots it is better for the horse you bet on to have the cold sit rather than the death seat.
