popping your collar

For pimp-ass mofos and gangstas;

Usually when one pinches the sides of your collar, usually on a polo or dress-shirt. You pinch the sides, and pull them up in self appraisal. It's a way of saying to the world, "look at how great I am". Almost exclusively male.

For preppy teenaged boys and girls;

Usually when the boy or girl unfolds the collar of a polo so that it stands straight up around the neck. It's supposed to be 'cool', but you can sometimes come off looking like Batman.
For gangstas; "You were popping your collar when I told you how sharp you looked in that velour suit."

For preps; "Nick was popping his collar in class today. At first I thought his ears were cold, but then I realized he thought it was 'cool'."

popped collar

Originally worn by sporty preppies (usually while playing tennis) as a means to cover their neck from the sun; a common style amongst preppies for decades that has recently - and unfortunately - been hijacked by more urban, trendy, new-age and metrosexual styles that contradict the traditional lack of trendiness characteristic of true prepdom.
A popped collar with ripped jeans and sneakers is dreadful, whereas a popped collar with khakis, loafers and a cable-knit sweater is classy.

horse-collar (tackle)

The horse-collar tackle (a.k.a. cowboy collar) is an American football maneuver in which a defender tackles another player by grabbing the back-inside of an opponent's shoulder pads from behind and yanking the player down. The technique is most closely associated with Pro Bowl former Dallas Cowboys and current Cincinnati Bengals star safety Roy Williams. This kind of tackle was banned from the NFL during the 2005 offseason; the rule forbidding it is often referred to in the press as "The Roy Williams Rule." The rule was expanded to include the back of the jersey collar in 2006.
The horse-collar (tackle) is particularly dangerous due to the awkward position of the player getting tackled, who will often fall backward in a twisting motion with one or both legs trapped under the weight of his body.
