Durchschnitt

Durchschnitt is an insult commonly used to Germany. Calling someone a Durchschnitt is similar to calling someone a wimp or a scaredy-cat. Durchschnitt has been used as an insult since around mid eighteenth century.

The advertising slogan/strapline of German automaker Audi.

Often heard at the end of 1980s-era Audi commercials and cleverly adapted to suit the theme of the ad.

Example 1 - Audi 100 commercial set in New York City:
"Vorsprung Durch Technik, Durch Technik as they say in New York, New York"

Example 2 - Audi 100 commercial set around a German violinist:
"Vorsprung Durch Technik, as they play, in Germany"
