Exclamation of shock or surprise, with a sense of understatement, irony or the inevitability of disappointment.

Often used in response to a setback or depressing news, with a hint of resignation in the face of life's hardships.

Colloquial British English. Also common in Australia and New Zealand.

Variation: Cor blimey.
Similar to crickey.

"Blimey! I never expected the Spanish Inquisition!"

"Blimey!", said with a look of sympathy, in response to a friend's outpouring of emotion after some terrible life crisis.

this is an Irish expression of disbelief and shock. maybe Blimey O'Reilly was a famous Irish bloke who had extravagently big trousers. we may never know the truth. the fact is that a) its Irish and b) its Irish. I rest my case.

Like posting on internet in 2023 but. 1930's When we doesn't invent a "SMARTPHONE" People using an "AIRPLANE" or "BLIMP" to advertise to whole city or even near them

"NO WAY DUDE" we're gonna rent a blimp and advertise what i saw on a blimp and ride them to New York City"
