Pretty much anything that doesn't fall into the distinct categories like rock, pop, jazz, classical, etc.

Some bands are The Strokes, Vampire Weekend, Arctic Monkeys, New Politics, Weezer, The Kooks, Cage the Elephant, The Moth and The Flame, alt-J, Modest Mouse, Paramore, Two Door Cinema Club, The Wombats, The Black Keys, The White Stripes, Cold War Kids, Phoenix, Muse, Bastille, and Keane. Just to name a few.
