After being pulled over for running a red light, I was let off with a warning. Later at work I told this story to my coworker. ( I am white and she is mixed) She immediately took my story, and made it all about her. She spent 10 minutes race shaming me, claiming it was only due to my race that I was let off with a warning. While if the tables were turned, she would’ve had to fear for her life from the police officer.

Seen as a convenient attempt to avoid embarrassment associated with the "walk of shame". Term thought to have originated from University of Maryland, College Park, where evening transportation services are innundated with calls from hung-over freshmen who do not want to be seen walking home.
