phone fear

A temporary moment of apprehension, anxiety or shyness that prevents someone from making a routine phone call.

A: "(casually) Could you call the restaurant?"
A: "(hesitantly) Erm... no: you call"
B: "(amused) What's the matter, got phone fear?"
A: "(angrily) No. I just don't feel like talking to them... (frustratedly) Yes okay, I have phone fear -- now *you* call... (sheepishly) please."

phoned it in

to put in a half assed effort at something, but complete it. Often pertaining to work which is complete and pretending to have worked a long time on, when in fact little to no effort was put into it. Derived from deciding to not physically attend a meeting in, but rather to be present by phone only.

Even though he had a huge project due Friday, he went to a party and got hammered Thursday night. He totally phoned it in.

My friend was driving me to work yesterday and got phoned out at a stop light, we sat there for 10 seconds after it changed to green before he snapped out of it.

PhDness

The act of working on, or relating to, one's Ph.D.

Primarily used by postgraduate students in an attempt to refer to the overwhelming amount of work they have to do in a lighthearted, and positive manner -- despite the realistic stress, pressure, and guilt that are ever-present during doctoral study.

"I can't go out tonight, I have PhDness to catch up on."

Q: "Hey, what have you been up to lately?"
A: "Just PhDness."

phone slide

When a man slides, or hands his phone to a woman, with the create new contact screen already visible, while not saying anything as a means to procure her phone number.

It is effective because it eliminates actually having to ask for a woman's phone number. This makes the situation less awkward, while requiring less confidence to pull off.

Tom: How did u get Stacy's number, she is hot?!?!
Josh: I used the phone slide, it never fails.
