Moderators are assigned to "moderate" something which means they are in charge of seeing that it does what it is supposed to do and nothing more.

Most moderators are driven mad by their lust for power and will cause suffering and hatred at every turn because it makes them happy to see others unhappy.

What the other definitions here leave out is that moderators aren't just for forums or websites. There are moderators of sorts in games, chat rooms and many other places. All of them are nerdy teenages who get back at life for making them monsters by taking their anger out on anyone they can.

I used to play a really cool MUD called Moongate until the moderators(caleed immortals for some gay reason) went mad with power, changed the name of the game and banned me for trying to report a bug. Losers.

Rocko's Modern Life

A genuinely hilarious show on Nickelodeon in the mid-1990s. 'RML' was an ingenious parody of 1990s life, poking fun at big businesses, coffee shops, credit cards, and many other things. Since it was on a children's network, the show's creators had to throw in some 'potty jokes,' as much of the show's true humor was too highbrow for the average ten year-old.

Rocko's Modern Life still airs on Nicktoons TV, but I don't think that very many people receive that channel.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 campers

Armchair moderator

An armchair moderator is someone in a forum or chatroom on the Internet that isn't a moderator of the website, yet acts like one. Sometimes this is abbrieviated to "armchair mod". Usually armchair moderators long to be a moderator themselves, so they try to enforce the rules by telling people who break the rules to stop, and to enforce the rules that are usually already read when you enter the website.

Person 1: what up people
Person 2: stfu n00b
Armchair moderator: please refrain from using profanity or from calling anyone "n00bs", it's annoying and immature.

Person 1: I hate armchair mods
Armchair moderator: blacklisting is against the rules here.

Twitch moderators are stupid ass guys. A twitch moderator will ban a guy for doing something stupid, but will not ban a girl for doing something worse.
