honor guard

n.

An honor guard is comprised of at least two persons, usually numbering five to seven persons, and can be larger. These individuals are usually uniformed, such uniforms relating to the particular group or organization they are providing services to. For example, a police honor guard would be comprised of uniformed police officers; a military honor guard would be comprised of armed forces members, members of an armed forces auxiliary organization, or other military-styled organization.

Further, honor guards represent the highest ideals of the country or culture they belong to. Most honor guards, therefore, in honor to their country of origin, carry their National flag and observe their country's flag code, as they pay their respects to the other values they hold. Nearly all military honor guards, by their nature, also include a National flag bearer and whatever else is required by said flag code. For example, the American flag code requires that the American flag be protected; thus, an additional member of the honor squad generally carries a rifle or saber (genuine or replica) in order to pay respects to this requirement.

National Honor Society

An exclusive club open to students who have at least a B+ average. About 99% of the people in NHS could honestly care less about the club itself and the only reason they joined in the first place is because they know they have good grades and just want it to look good on a college application. These people on NHS could care less about helping the school and their community as long as they can use being on NHS to get into a good college/university. However, there actually, usually is one or two students on NHS who actually join it out of the goodness of their hearts.

Breaking the BYU Honor Code

Sex.

So named for the February 2010 dismissal of Brandon Davies from the BYU basketball team, less than a month before the NCAA tournament, for "breaking the BYU honor code."

After a brief period of inquiry, the media was able to determine that his infraction was not criminal in nature (the most typical reason a collegiate athlete would be kicked off a team), but because he had had consensual sex with his girlfriend. BYU's honor code forbids students from having premarital sex and instructs them to "live a chaste and virtuous life."
