is a space. You use it in between every word. If spaces didn't exist, it would be hard to read. This is what this sentence would look like without spaces:

holding space

It's a term used in recovery circles. It's just listening to someone share without daydreaming, interrupting, or offering advice. You know, actually paying attention. Not folding laundry.

The subject matter is likely of a serious nature which is why it wants to be heard in a serious manner. It's just symmetry between talking and listening.

I appreciate you holding space for me while I got that shit off my chest.
