The act or literally throwing down a gauntlet or glove as a challenge to a duel, joust or other form of battle or throw down.
Colonel Sanders was going to throw down the gauntlet when his fried chicken did not win the blue ribbon.

Pop Down / Bahamian slang / phrase / 1 : to suddenly or quickly fall low in / lose all, of one's finances 2: to become depressed(in emotion) from the sudden lack of spendable cash. 3 : BROKE 4 : Destitute 5 : to look old and worn 6 : no longer of usable value - useless. 7 : of low value : CHEAP
