wingnut

A name given to a person who has ears that stick out the side (at a greater angle than is usual) like little wings on their head. Sort of reminiscent of those little nuts that are easy to screw because of their wing-like attatchments, also called "wing nuts".

This is how it is used by some people in New Zealand anyway.

Billy: "Hey! It's Wingnut!"

n. Unpersuasive political and/or absurd rhetoric advanced by a <a href="http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=wingnut">Wingnut</a> normally in support of an irrational, but deeply held, conservative viewpoint.

The political views of a right wing nut.

One can often find examples of <a href="http://thecommanderguy.blogspot.com/search/label/Wingnuttery">Wingnuttery</a> by reading the political opinions of contributors at <a href="http://corner.nationalreview.com/">The Corner</a>.

Example: Did you read that Op. Ed in the National Review about George Bush being the Greatest President ever? The Wingnuttery in that article was especially mind numbingly stupid.

(noun) A person appearing to be moderately to severely crazy, disoriented, majobling, see Majoble, jumbled and more often than not, a total mess. A wingnut is a constant source of entertainment to those surrounding it and can easily be found in any type of setting or venue. Example: grocery stores, sporting events, cross-walks, public transportation, school, work…you may even have one in your house.

The wingnut that is suppose to be teaching our biology class is talking to the fire extinguisher and telling it to read 'Paradise Lost' for yesterday's class.

Wingnut Welfare Queen

Popularized by the blog Sadly, No, the term "Wingnut Welfare Queen" refers not to a poor person, but to a low-talent, self-appointed pundit of the right, male or female, of the type who have become prominent in large patches of media, Washington D.C. think tanks and the Republican Party, and who depend on some mix of right-wing money, praise or contacts to boost and further their careers. Putting the "wingnut" in Wingnut Welfare Queen means the media figure will be not just predictably or reliably conservative or ultra-conservative, but doggedly and irrationally so.

Many Wingnut Welfare Queens style themselves "Populists"; nonetheless, some some appear to take relish in the abrasiveness and ad hominem quality of their attacks on individuals they perceive as not necessarily contrary in ideology, but lacking in fervor.

A Wingnut Welfare Queen's natural adversaries inhabit the best-recompensed strata of left-wing academia and the leftmost edge of the Democratic Party, with some holdouts on the op-ed pages of liberal metropolitan daily newspapers; they are the upper-tier of the class called Poverty Pimp (q.v.), code-word "Progressive."
