shelter patina

Share definition
the dirty look that homeless people acquire over time, generally a mix of urine, spilled beer, shelter soup, general filth, and who knows what else.
Have you been working on your tan or did you pick up a shelter patina during Lollapalooza?! It takes time and a genuine devotion to develop a true shelter patina. You can't fake the shelter patina.

shelter hopper

A female who goes from a homeless shelter to a domestic violence shelter to receive free help.
I just helped this woman who needed some money for gas to go to the doctor.

Why what is wrong with her situation? Is she homeless?
Yes she just left the shelter she was in because she didn't feel safe with the erratic behaviour of some of the other residents. They were threatening her.

So is she having to live in her car now?
No she is at a women's shelter that can help with the trauma of being abused and threatened. It's safer for her.

She has no family to keep her safe and she is alone. She had to leave another countythat was helping her because she kept getting attacked and she has P. T. S. D. Now she is here for safety reasons.

Oh girl I hate to sound mean but she is a shelter hopper from the sounds of it.

What is that?
Someone whooped shelter to shelter to get free help and plays victim.

A strenuous test of a couple's compatibility.
Forbidden to leave the house, they had shared every meal, slept, worked, read, watched videos and exercised side-by-side, hour after hour, every night and day for a very long time, and yet they were actually having a good time. She felt that if they survived this shelter-in-place-ionship they could survive anything.

Shelter Child

Share definition
A person raised by strict parents who refuse to expose their children to the real world.
A shelter child is a person that becomes violently offended when they hear of other people taking their kids to midnight movie premiers on school nights even though they themselves don't have children.

A shelter child thinks premarital sex is evil. And even though it's natural, it's not okay (even safely)

A shelter child lets their parents control their lives until they're 25.

A shelter child can be strongly opinionated and want everyone to agree with them even though they won't listen to another person's differing views.

A shelter child won't realize a person hit by a car and an animal hit by a car don't look that different on the side of the road.

A shelter child doesn't think IT will ever happen to them.

All in all, these are the people that are in for the shock of their lives when they realize how this world really works and that it's not all fun and games.

The world isn't a bad place, but many people have misconceptions about what happens in it on a day to day basis. Your beliefs are as good as mine, but it's important to keep an open mind and realize the world isn't always nice.
