The belief that all Latinos in the U.S.A are Mexican.

Me getting off the phone: Si, te quiero, bye.

Whiter than Albino friend Tiffany: Hey I didn't know you are Mexican!

Me: Well, actually, I'm Latino.

Tiffany: Hey Ashley, did you know she was Mexican?

Ashley: You're Mexican?

Me: Not all Latino's are Mexican. My family is from-

Phil: Wow! How did you get across the border? Can you speak Spanish? Hey Steve! She's a Mexican immigrant!

Steve: An illegal Mexican immigrant! Dude! Jerry's uncle is a cop! You shouldn't be telling people that.

Me: I am totally an illegal Mexican immigrant! I just got out of cage where ICE kept me and my 7 brothers and sisters: Juan, Juan-Diego, Juanita, Juanpango, Juan jr. Juan Sr. and Juan-de La Rosa, and now I spend my days running from border patrol.

All: Wow!

Me: Yall and your Latino Grouping. I'm glad we have Affirmative Action and I get to beat all of you to college.

Means "latin". The culture and language of ancient Italy. The Roman Empire took over most of Europe and influenced their languages and cultures, so it "latinized" the continent and the new languages are called Romance Languages (with roots in Rome).

After Columbus's discovery of America (the Continent), and the subsequent colonizations of most of the new continent by Spain and Portugal, the latino influence was expanded.

Latino is a person who speaks a romance language (i.e. Italian, Spanish, French, Portuguese) or their cultural heritage comes from any country that speaks any of those languages.

In the US the word latino is misused to name only people from Latin America. The Latin America was a term first created to mean "the part of America ruled by Latino countries, Spain and Portugal" in opposition to the Anglo-Saxon America, ruled by the British (now Eastern United States). In this sense, some parts of the United States are part of the Latin America because they were ruled by Spain at some point (California, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas).

Jorge: We latinos are the best lovers and you whites don't know how to do it.

A confusing term created by confused people who think you can classify a race by a language. Residents of "latin" American countries refer to themselves as latino because of their descendants from Spain. Little do they realize that most of said countries had next to zero interbreeding with Spaniards and a vast majority of those who refer to themselves as latin have zero Spanish blood. Countries and people who should obviously not be called latino are somehow lumped under this category simply because they speak Spanish. Blacks born in the Dominican Republic are somehow latino, as are white europeans from Spain. Blacks and Spaniards racially and ethnically have NOTHING in common with residents of the Latin Americas but call themselves the same race. Somehow, under this theory, a Spaniard is latin, but an Italian is not, despite the fact that pretty much everything Latin really came from Rome.

Latino is an overly vague, catch-all term and a misnomer that attributes a culture to people that don't belong to it, at the same time depriving one of their actual heritage. A Mexican is a Mexican. A Spaniard is a Spaniard. A Puerto Rican is a Puerto Rican.

Manuel: Hmmm, race? What to choose, what to choose... well, I AM white, so I should probably choose caucasian... Wait, never mind! I speak Spanish! Therefore, THIS is my race! (checks the "latino" box)

Afro-Latino

A man from or with roots from any spanish speaking country with both black (African) and spanish ancestry. Sometimes referred to as a blatino or a blaxican (depending on the spanish country of origin). As with an afro-latina, afro-latino's have the best of both worlds. They are sexy, passionate, make great lovers and ladies, if you are ever lucky enough to catch one, you'll find there's nothing better than a brotha who speaks Spanish. They come in many flavors, cafe (Merlin Santana), cafe con leche (Tego Calderon), caramel (Maxwell)and leche.
At times, the Afro-Latino may become very frustrated, because the latino community (which he loves)doesn't recognize him and shows racism. Afro-Latinos take this in stride and continue being the lovers that they are.

Ayyyy, Tego Calderon is fine, I gotta get me an afro-latino como el!

Girl #1:Gurl, I didn't know that brotha spoke Spanish?
Girl#2:Yeah, gurl, he's afro-latino!
