A pejorative term for a Slovenian-American. From the German word Krainer, a person from Krain, the German name for the Austro-Hungarian province of Carniola in modern-day Slovenia. Prevalent in the Great Lakes region, the Midwest and Appalachia. Variations include griner (GRY-ner), krainer (KRY-ner) and granish (GRAN-ish), from Krainische, meaning Carniolan. Granish is specific to western Pennsylvania.

A player in massively-multiplayer online (MMO) games that is content to complete mindlessly repetitive tasks in order to increase an arbitrary number within a game to "level up".
Player A: "Hey, QuidditchKid792. How did you get your level up so fast from last night? You must have gone up three levels!"
Player B: "My friend is a grinder, and he leveled me up all last night in exchange for some Tier 6 equipment."

A U.S. Marine Corps nickname for the drill field, often a large paved avera, where official drill & ceremonies are conducted. New recruits first experience the grinder at their Recruit Depot.
