Derived from the word
Digger, used to describe Australian troops who dug the trenches in WWI, Digger has been cultural slang in Australia for
mate, which is slang for friend. More recently Digga has made the rounds as the urban tongue licks Australian suburb vernacular, being an excellent substitute in
hip hop for a more demeaning rhyming word as it holds no class representation due to the absence of racial divide when on the frontline. It is to be used only when the receiver and the payer of the term are in Australia, or when an Aussie meets another Aussie in another part of the
world. VERY easily misinterpreted, especially in South Central
LA or the "ghetto", where you will not have the opportunity to explain its origins.
