Demic

I can agree with the subscriber who advised that the term Demic came from Blackpool Corporation Tramways Department, but I was advised that it stems from when an item, such as part of an electric motor of a tramcar, or a diesel engine part off a bus, was no longer working, or working properly, so it was removed for the attention of the... Diesel Electrical Mechanic In Charge and a label attached to it for them to inspect it. That was a bit of a long thing to write over time, so it became shortened to D.E.M.I.C.

Thus, over time, anything with DEMIC written upon it, meant it wasn't fit for purpose. It was Demic.

I'm not stating this as absolute certainty, but it certainly fits as there was and still is, such a position. Now usually refered to as The Chief Engineer, but they proside over both the bus and tram fleet that Blackpool still has, so they still deal with both diesel and electrical equipment to this day.
That wiper motor is completely useless...it's absolutely Demic.
