Cherried / Cherry Bakewelled / Cherry Chongled

If someone is ''cherried'', ''cherry bakewelled'' or ''cherry chongled'', it means they are not in a normal state of mind / thinking correctly either whilst sober or under the influence of alcohol, drugs etc.

You can also use combinations (cherry, cherried, cherry bakewell, cherry bakewelled, cherry chongled)

''That guys proper cherried like'' (sober and/or under the influence)

''He's just put diesel into his petrol car, what a cherry bakewell''

''He's an absolute cherry (cherry chongle / cherry bakewell), why's he gone and done that?''

''He says that all the time, hes a Cherry Bakewell''

''She had far too much to drink on Friday, she was proper cherried / cherry bakewelled / cherry chongled''

Henri "Papillon" Charriere

Henri Charriere (known as Papillon in the gang world) was a bad ass man who was wrongly convicted of murder and spent the best years of his life trying to escape inhuman conditions in the French island jails in order to obtain freedom. After various escape attempts and various different methods (using everything from guns, TNT, Cocoa leaves, two random Caribbean wives he picked up, sleeping potions, insane people, ect.) he managed to escape to freedom on his last attempt by jumping off a cliff and floating on a bag of coconuts in shark infested waters seventy miles to the nearest island. Papillon is the definition of what perseverance, dedication, and insane fearless desperation can achieve.

If Henri "Papillon" Charriere could do it, I can do it.

Woa, calm down there Papillon, that idea's too crazy you'll get yourself killed.

Cherries

US Army slang common during the Vietnam War, although possibly originating much earlier than this. It means a soldier who is a combat virgin who has not been 'blooded' and, therefore, one whose behaviour in combat is unpredictable. The arrival of a new soldier as a replacement in an established unit was always difficult, hence the referral to such an arrival as FNG (Fucking New Guy). Where this soldier had not seen combat the difficulty was compounded and the established troops viewed them with suspicion as an unknown quantity.

We just got a load of replacements for the guys evaced out last week, no lifers all FNG cherries.
