Famous British Spa Towns are Bath and Royal Leamington Spa. Large areas for bathing have been uncovered many times by archaeologists digging for Roman remains at Bath, Somerset. The Royal Pump Rooms and Baths were opened at Leamington ,Warwickshire in the early 1800s. Other examples of spa towns in Britain include Cheltenham, Harrogate, Llandrindod Wells, Malvern and Tunbridge Wells. There is an area called Spa, near Ballynahinch, Co. Down. There was a pump room and there also baths there in the late 1800s early 1900s but these have long since closed although the name still exists.

Spa, is another word used for the word friend. Commonly used by chavs in South Wales, it is commonly thought to have come from the Newport area, home to Goldie Lookin Chain, which also use the word regularly in their songs.
