Hammer Down

an expression of aggression, forth rightness, efficiency, and extreme attention to detail in getting something done. a popular phrase for sergeants that was coined by Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 303 Airframes and later spread to Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 267 Airframes division. Hammer Down serves as an adjective in the sense of describing the expiditious, dominant manner an activity is conducted or as a stand alone verb such as A) laying the fuck into somebody. B) getting shit the fuck done C) regulating on bitches like a mofo.

1. "if you need me i will be outside on the flightline putting the hammer down on shit"
2. if these Marines keep fucking up I am going to put the fucking hammer down.

3. "we have a lot of work to do if we are flying these heli choppers tonight, we really need to hammer down"

hammer-down protocol

Is a fictional, scorched earth code-name where in the U.S. military decides to cut it's losses and destroys, through carpet bombing, the U.S.'s own territories and/or cities that are deemed lost to enemy forces. The term was first used in the movie Cloverfield, followed by the video-game Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

In COD:MW2 the Hammer-Down Protocol is a scorched earth policy through indiscriminant, large scale carpet bombing of the city of D.C. do to the heavy number of Russians in the area.

It is very similar in application and purpose in Cloverfield. However, it is used for the reason of an all-or-nothing attempt to destroy the monster, as well as the small parasites that had no-doubt flooded Manhattan.

Put the hammer down

The term comes from back in the day when Truckers were Truckers and their rigs didn't have A.C., in an attempt to cool off, truckers would put a sludge hammer down on the gas peddle, open their doors and stand outside on the steps while cruising down Route 66 through the Cajon Pass in Calif. They would call out on their CB's "put the hammer down". You would see a line of semis with truckers driving from the step of their trucks.

It's time to put the hammer down.
