Especially in light of a school called "autistic economics" as a put down phrase. Gifted and talented just sounds elitist (the G&T are just very good at something, not elitist).
As all those undertaking education in special schools and main stream schools and therapy groups have the need for communication gains, it is generally accepted the phrase communication gainers will replace "autism" "ASD", "gifted and talented" and "PDD"
