Creepypasta

A story on the Internet of events that are very important for people to know about because of how horrifying and creepy they are. It's important that people know about the events that have transpired in these accounts, so the people telling us about them make sure to use so many grammatical errors, tense swaps, and misspelled words that they are virtually unreadable.

Man 1: (reading) "My whole family is afraid of me now. I can't kill them. Since I only know of Emily's death. I want no one to oppose me. No one to break my glass. This, soon, will become the society. I will even make Wily's Society look like a nonexistent heaven. I already made a big slaughter just like after the fatal battle between the sons of Light."

..........What the hell does that mean?

Man 2: It's creepypasta. If these people were good at writing scary stories, they'd wouldn't have put them on a creepypasta web site.

An online network of “scary” stories that have been ruined by teenage fan girls. Some popular characters include : Jeff the Killer and his sister Jane, BEN Drowned, and Eyeless Jack. The names tend to lack creativity, such as Masky, who wears a mask, or Hoodie, who, believe it or not, wears a hoodie. The characters are often romantised even though they are killers. Arguably the most famous character is Slenderman, who owns a mansion in the woods and trains “proxies.” “Edgy” teenagers often claim that one day they’ll meet Slenderman and kill for him. But they’re just characters, kids. They don’t exist.

The stories aren't really copy and pasted anymore, but rather they are screenshots of the post so they can be shared and saved as an image rather than a huge block of text.

Creepypasta

A type of immersive media, detailing a story, usually of the traditional or psychological horror genre, told from the point of view of another fake series of media taken from the lore of the creepypasta that would have been shared with the public according to the creepypasta’s story, creating a lot of immersion. They use non-linear storytelling a lot and are very often complex or subtle enough that just viewing the media is not enough to decipher the story. This has created communities, dedicated to solving the stories of many creepypastas. The quality of creepypastas can vary greatly.

The creepypasta “alantutorials” is en excellent one, told vía the medium of a series of YouTube videos, which are fake “tutorials” made, in reality by the creator (Alan Resnik), but supposedly, according to the story, created by the main character in the story (conveniently also named Alan). (I won’t tell the actual story here, you’ll have to view it yourself (on YouTube), but I promise it gets very interesting.)
