A typically circular device used to tell the
time. It uses three sticks or "hands" that point to numbers and lines that were printed out on a layer of typically painted cardboard attached to the back. This uses about three of these "hands", one the thickest and shortest, (known as the HOUR
hand), another that is slightly taller and thinner than the hour
hand, (also the MINUTE
hand), and the thinnest and longest one, (the SECOND
hand). The hour-
hand moves across each number or line each HOUR, the minute-hand each MINUTE, and the second-hand each SECOND. These are usually run by batteries nowadays, where the battery turns a series of gears to keep the clock going. Sometimes the clock displays the
time directly, on a screen, these are known as digital clocks. You can find something similar displayed on your phone. But some are run by Pendulums! That'
s pretty cool. These come in many form-factors, too. These are useful machines with good purpose.
