It can be used to represent two different emotions:
1. The person actually wants to kill themself. Typically not used in a joking conversation but use what you know about the person before responding. Do they say it often? Did they end the statement with a period? Did they say sorry/thanks before or after? If they seem sad or reserved, please check in on them.
